SQUARE FOR FREE FANTASY
A large sculptural project in glazed porcelain for Pedagogen Park in Mölndal (city close to Gothenburg, Sweden). The client is Aspelin Ramm AB. Torsten Jurell creats the work in Jingdezhen, China. during 2018. The work will be inaugurated at June 12, 2019.

A ship comes loaded...
With 48 boxes of porcelain from Jingdezhen.Hua Guang Yang Shan is a container ship, which arrives to the port of Gothenburg on January 29th. This ship has made the same trip as a once the sailing ship Göthborg did 200 years ago.
Now the crates are filled with the porcelain that will form a Square for Free Fantasy at the "Pedagogen Park" in Mölndal - a city nearby Gothenburg.
On March 25th, the work begins with the square. The opening ceremony takes place on 12 June.
The "Pedagogen Park" has for a long time been in a collaboration with the artist Torsten Jurell, worked on the project to create a square, a "meeting place for the unexpected". A place that can open the minds of Travel freely back and forth in time, to real places or places that will once appear. A Square for Free Fantasy.
Torsten Jurell, who for many years had China and Jingdezhen as a bas for his creation, has linked this project to the Maritime Silk Road during the time when the East India Company tied the Swedish west Coast together with the distant Asia.
It was in Jingdezhen in China, more than a thousand years ago, the imperial porcelain, China's "white gold" was invented. Later on, during the 1700- the treasure of the Chinese porcelain became an important trade with Sweden as well.
It is in Jingdezhen the porcelain is created that in the spring will be joined together to a giant mosaic for people to walk on - over The Square for Free Fantasy.
The mosaic, which is 6 meters in diameter, is flanked of five Large "medallions - reliefs" even those in glazed porcelain.
Influences by thoughts and scientific innovations through the Silk Road - with this art project, we are building on a long cultural exchange brought by long trade relations with the "Far East".
Jingdezhen undergoes major changes to become a significant Pottery Centre Into the future.
A similar large remodeling of an industrial city - entering a new era happen with Mölndal.It is therefore particularly exciting to connect the pottery, the clay as the oldest form of expression of the mankind, into something new, where there are no borders - In A Square for free Fantasy.
