“When you reflect on the huge armies despatched into the field by Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Hitler or Brezhnev, when you think of names such as Carthage and Sparta. What remains today? Desert sand. The reliefs were created during NATO’s 76-day bombing campaign in Serbia. Bridges, water purification plants, railways – the entire infrastructure of a society was systematically reduced to rubble”.
